Rate limits exist on all our plans to help ensure reliable access to all our users. If you're finding you hit the limit regularly, check out our best practices below, or consider upgrading your plan or overage limit (on all plans except Starter).

Overage Protection
Overage protection helps prevent unexpected charges by limiting the number of API calls beyond your monthly subscription. We default all plans to no overage protection, meaning you won't be billed for exceeding your monthly limit, but your service will be disrupted beyond your monthly limit. For Pro and Enterprise plans, you can adjust this any time within your plan settings. Overage is billed at \$1/month increments. Each increment provides an additional 1,000 API calls.
Best Practices
To optimize API usage and avoid hitting limits:
- Cache metadata (e.g. Bible names, chapters, verse names) when possible.
- Use pagination rather than bulk downloads.
- Request only the passages required by users.
